Lot 517: 1951 Joe DiMaggio Game Used All Star Bat

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $10,000.00
Winning Bid: $14,395.97
Price Realized: $17,203.18
Auction Date:5/3/2007 9:00 PM EST

Extremely rare piece from the last year of DiMaggio’s career. This is one of only two H&B bats made for his thirteenth, and final, All-Star appearance. Starting in 1949, each player was given two bats by H&B for the All-Star game which means that there can only possibly be six DiMaggio All-Star bats in existence. It bares nice game use with ball stitch marks on the barrel. This is a signature model with crisp stamping on the center label and barrel that reads “All Star Game, Joe Di Maggio, Detroit - 1951” A Hillerich and Bradsby model D29L (stamped on knob). There is some grain separation from those hard hit balls but the bat is uncracked. Very small nail hole in both the barrel and the knob ends that could easily be filled in or left as is. Singular representation of one of the greatest athletes in history.
