In the hands of a legend, a bat became a symbol of the game itself in all its facets and no legend knew the game as well as Mickey Mantle. Nicknamed "The Mick" or "The Commerce Comet" by many New York sportswriters, Mantle was an American institution whose talent would abet towards twelve pennants and seven World Series titles for the New York Yankees from 1951-1968, punctuating the team's legendary status. This game-used bat was gripped tightly by the legend in his later years (65-68) and was an instrumental part of his .295 average. A half a decade after he battled the brooding Roger Maris for Babe Ruth's home run record, Mantle's bat shows the battle scars of a well-honed instrument, slightly cracked with slight remnants of pine tar. Well-used Louisville Slugger: 36 inches and 32 ounces.
