Impressive and important lithograph entitled "Sleighing In New York" by Thomas Benecke depicts winter street life in New York City, centered around the world famous "Barnum's Museum." Captures the essence of NYC in the mid 1850's. Children are playing, and stagecoaches are carrying the elegantly dressed New York society. There is a white carriage memorial to Zachary Taylor, the beloved President who recently died in office. Barnum's Museum is the dominating force with a huge sign out front. The distinctive animals painted on the windows are a familiar association, for the populace, of this wonderful place. Printed by Nagel & Lewis in 1855. This print is inscribed from the Library of Congress Collection, and was deacquisitioned in the 1960's. Print itself is 25x34"; framed overall, 35.5x42". Except for a little edge wear, condition is NRMT.
