Stunning archive is historically important and equally beautiful aesthetically. There are many early images with much material from the 1920s: series of four "first photos" of the election of Pope Pius X (1922), two of Pope Leon 13th 's tomb (1924), sealing the Holy Door with the Pope last to exit (1926), announcing 1922 Pope's election, 1924 elevation of American Cardinals, huge file on the opening of the Vatican to the public for the first time in 70 years after the ratification of the pact declared it a new a state, 1929 restoration of St. Peter's into an illuminated palace, first appearance of Pope Pius outside the Vatican, and blessedly more. Overall EX. Averages 7x9". Original paper captions.
