This is an amazing archive. Dating from the 1920s to the 1950s (most 1930s-40s) they include complete files on the following boats: San Francisco, Sargo,Searaven, Seadragon, Sculpin, Sam Rayburn, Snook, Skipjack (atomic), Skate (atomic), Plunger, Pickerel, Wahoo, Ulysses S. Grant, Tuna, Tullibee,Triton, Trigger, Triton, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, Tautog, Woodrow Wilson, Swordfish, Sea Wolf, Puffer, Pomodon, Pomfret, Pollack, Polaris, Silversides, Shark, Sam Houston, Runner, Scorpion, Sailfish, Trout, Permit,Perch, Saury, Patrick Henry, S-Type and a huge file on the 1928 S-4 disaster off the coast of Provincetown. There are great individual images:V-1 leaving Portsmouth for Provincetown, launching of the Trigger, Stickleback and dirigible, S-51 in dry-dock, great stuff on torpedoesincluding four multi-photo progressions of torpedoes going into the water,and much more. Overall EX-MT, the size averages 7x9". Original papercaptions and/or newspaper article affixed to versos. An amazing collection of images, almost all of which (thankfully) are the boats themselves.

This lot is from the legendary San Francisco Examiner Archive (SFXArchive).
This is one largest collections ever of historic vintage photos spanning the entire 20th century. The San Francisco Examiner was the first paper acquired by William Randolph Hearst and itself was the subject of the film classic Citizen Kane. The majority of the photographs are fully identified, and back-stamped with dates. Included throughout this auction is a diverse mix of subjects including sports, historical, political, transportation, Hollywood, and all facets of entertainment.
