The mighty ‘Biscuit and his memorial at Santa Anita in bronze by the famed horses sculptor Hulette “Tex” Wheeler. Two with “finishing touches” (one front caption), being viewed by six of his colts (wonderful 1947 image by Bert Clark Thayer with his stamp on verso), Charles Howard at the unveiling with Seabiscuit’s racing colors proudly displayed, Seabiscuit himself returning to be honored with the unveiling met by Charles Howard (forint caption), meeting himself in bronze along with Charles Howard and sculptor Tex Wheeler (front caption). All are 1940-41 unless noted. Stamps and/or original paper captions. Overall EX and 8x10”.

This lot is from the legendary San Francisco Examiner Archive (SFXArchive).
This is one largest collections ever of historic vintage photos spanning the entire 20th century. The San Francisco Examiner was the first paper acquired by William Randolph Hearst and itself was the subject of the film classic Citizen Kane. The majority of the photographs are fully identified, and back-stamped with dates. Included throughout this auction is a diverse mix of subjects including sports, historical, political, transportation, Hollywood, and all facets of entertainment.
