Complete archive of an incredible 360 photographs of the General who led the United States Armed Forces during the Great War. A complete history of his life includes material from WWI, his return home as hero, up to later in life, even his death. Some of the highlights include honoring British war dead, with President Wilson, several with Marshall Foch, with General Gouraud, rare real photo post card, a medal being pinned on him by FDR, several beautiful oversized pieces, at Canadian Memorial, reviewing the troops, Armistice Day, with Eleanor Roosevelt, unveiling of his Versailles statue (several), rare local SF images, pinning medal on Douglass MacArthur, with Civil War veterans (Union and Confederate), two WWI portraits by George G. Fraser, NYC Armistice Parade, welcomed to home town, 1918 family photo, in the Philippines, with Henri Patain, two of the famous image of all the WWI leaders (Foch, Diaz, Jacques, Beatty), Lafayette-Marne Day in NYC, and several of Pershing’s funeral including lying in state at the Capitol. The portraits (there are dozens of them) are breathtaking! Best of all, with Pancho Villa (printed 1938). Majority are 1910s to 1930s. There is even a separate archive (included) of 51 photographs of his son Francis Warren Pershing. They range from him as a youngster in WWI to his commission in WWII. Most with stamps and original paper captions on versos. Overall EX and 7x9”.

This lot is from the legendary San Francisco Examiner Archive (SFXArchive).
This is one largest collections ever of historic vintage photos spanning the entire 20th century. The San Francisco Examiner was the first paper acquired by William Randolph Hearst and itself was the subject of the film classic Citizen Kane. The majority of the photographs are fully identified, and back-stamped with dates. Included throughout this auction is a diverse mix of subjects including sports, historical, political, transportation, Hollywood, and all facets of entertainment.
