The 1970s style of monochromatic graphics, heavy illustrative detail and fun are in high form on these posters used during that heady decade at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for concerts, theaters and record stores. Sixteen in all, this superb collection of file copies were preserved by a Madison faculty member over the years and contain tremendous images of rock n’ roll icons as well as iconic movie advertisements and other items of local and ‘70s era flavor. A highlight is the extravagant and energetic artwork of John Chritton on three unusual 1972 record store promos, illustrating elaborate portraits of Mick Jagger, Neil Young and Sly Stone in car (10% off record store). Concert posters include: Allman Brothers Band at Dane County Memorial (red with mushroom, folded, pinholes), 1975 The Turtles featuring Flo and Eddie (great psychedelic graphics), Flying Burrito Brothers (photo), Maynard Fergusson, The Albert King Show, Under the Sun (Mike Broomfield and Friends, Blue Oyster Cult), 1976 Charles Mingus Quintet and 1975 Cheap Trick, plus 1973 RFM (Radio Free Madison) artist list (Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, etc.). Also rock films “King Creole” (Elvis Presley), “Performance” (Mick Jagger), “The Harder They Come” (Jimmy Cliff), “Jazz Films” (John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, etc.) and 1973s “Imagine” with John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Most are about 21” x 14" and overall EX.
