Rather than depicting 1930’s pitching great, Carl Hubbell, in a busy and realistic playing field setting, much heralded baseball artist Lance Richbourg chooses instead to freeze the two-time National League MVP in an unobtrusive sky blue environment, where the left-handed pitching phenom’s record-breaking form can present cleanly - nothing else in this rich watercolor demands the eye’s attention besides the New York Giant’s unique and poetic delivery; only King Carl’s uniform wrings as much expression. This divine 1989 work on artist’s paper (NRMT) hovers within a light wood frame, and measures a very presentable 25 x 32 ½”. Richbourg signs and dates in lower right.
