Lot 634: 1962 Gaylord Perry San Fransico Game Worn Rookie Jersey

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $750.00
Winning Bid: $1,912.76
Price Realized: $2,285.75
Auction Date:12/15/2006 9:00 PM EST

Speculation and controversy swirled around the quirky right hander for the entire duration of his twenty-two year career. Few would have guessed in the beginning though that the wirey kid, whose erratic moves on the mound would warrant more than one search from suspicious umpires, would develop into a 300+ game winner and a future Hall of Famer. We offer Gaylord's grey flannel "road" jersey worn during his rookie season with the Giants in 1962. Sewn across the chest in double layer tackle twill is "San Francisco" and on back is his number "22". The tagging on the front left tail from "Spalding" is joined by a [size] "44" tag, while just below is "62" (year) and "44" chain-stitched in black thread. His name, which once could be found inside the collar, has since been fallen out. Overall the jersey shows significant game use, with minor fading to the lettering and numbers and light staining to the frontside.
