Lot 16: The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" Gold Record Award
Winning Bid:
Auction Date:5/5/2006 9:00 PM EST
This is the one that all the others are judged against. Whenever a poll is taken concerning the best or the most popular album ever, “Sgt. Pepper” will more than likely cop first place. At this point, most just take it for granted. This award, made during the 1990’s, is a “Hologram” style and it’s in EX condition. It is handsomely framed (17 x 21”) with the gold record in the center, and the famous Capitol label in the album’s center. Partially covering the bottom of the record is a painted gold cassette, “Gold Sales Award” above a small rendition of the album cover beside a RIAA plaque that reads “Presented to The Beatles to Commemorate the Sale of More Than 500,000 copies of the Capitol Records, Inc. Album, Cassette, and C.D. “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
