Lot 1868: 1963-64 Phil Esposito Game Worn Chicago Blackhawks Rookie Jersey
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
From the St. Louis Blades in the EPHL, Phil Esposito made the jump to Chicago Blackhawks halfway through the 1963-64 NHL season. In those twenty seven games he managed only 5 points, seeing limited ice time. Not much of an indicator, Espo would go on to become one of the game's highest scorers. We could not fathom ever offering his road jersey from those humble beginnings, but here it is. Battered and historic all at one time. The man would go on to put up 1,500+ points, most with the Bruins. Only 3 1/2 seasons in the Windy City. Do the math, this dureen tie front is as rare an NHL mega-star sweater as you will ever bid on. With the normal slight discoloration, numerous team repairs, cuts, pulls and paint this #7 will be the centerpiece of any hockey collection, even the Hockey Hall of Fame!! The jersey was handed down to the St. Catherine's Hawks and a captain's "C" was applied. It has since been removed. The jersey was eventually owned by St.Catherine's equipment manager. It is exact style matched to other Hawk's jerseys from that season. Bears Olympic collar tag size 44. LOA from Spirit of the Game.
