In 2001, under the guidance of trainer Bob Baffert, Point Given had a magnificent three-year-old season that included winning the Preakness, Belmont, and Travers. The artist wanted to capture a full movement quality of a horse in a painting. She loved the unusual color of the background as it helped create the movement she desired. That color was in stark contrast to the horse and jockey.
