Wendell grew up in Los Angeles and was a lifelong Dodgers fan. In this piece she was inspired by the artist Volpe and his portrait series. It was through this childhood inspiration that Wendell created this Koufax piece. Sandy was the first major hero in Los Angeles whose realm was outside of show business.
