Lot 1158: Rudy York Game Used Bat
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Versatile fielder Rudy York played on some of the better early Detroit Tiger squads, with Hank Greenberg, Mickey Cochrane, and Charlie Gehringer, ultimately finishing his stay in Detroit with a World Series title in 1945. This Hillerich & Bradsby Slugger dates from those early 40’s teams, before model numbers were stamped on the knobs. York knew how to draw some power from his bats, once breaking Babe Ruth’s one-month record for home runs with 18, and in 1943 (after a slump) led the American League in both home runs and RBI’s. A facsimile “Rudolph York” is engraved all alone on barrel, and the bat has fine use, with nice, deep burnings. Handle is cracked, though held securely and flawlessly with one nail. Measures 34".
