Lot 1148: 1965-68 Rico Petrocelli Game Used Bat
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Strong, two-toned wonder, is such because of the striking contrast between its deeply-ingrained, chocolate-colored pine tarred handle and its light, yet battle-scarred barrel; this war club has seen its share, and is one of the largest bats we have seen, as it measures just under 38”. Third baseman Rico Petrocelli swung this 1965-68 era Hillerich and Bradsby (model U1) as a Boston Red Sox, where the ’67 All-Star excelled in (yet another) attempt at ending the Ruth curse in the ’67 World Series with the eventual spoilers, the St. Louis Cardinals. Has his # “6” on the knob in marker, with a facsimile signature burned into barrel, where to its left is also signed by Petrocelli in 9/10 blue Sharpie. Heavy use with pine tar, bat rack marks, and loads of ball marks on the barrel.
