Canadian center, Herbert “Buddy” O’Connor, played professional hockey for the Montreal Canadiens (1941-47) and the New York Rangers (1947-51), and was the first player ever to win both the Lady Byng Trophy and the Hart Trophy for the same season, in this case, his 1947-48 season. Marie Evelyn Morton, also known as Lady Byng, originally had donated what is now known as the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, awarded for both good sportsmanship and skilled performance on the ice hockey playing arena. This silver plated serving dish (with lid) was awarded to O’Connor for winning the Byng trophy. It is EX-MT, and comes from the O’Connor estate. Also included is a copy of a photo of Buddy receiving this award. Engraving on back of dish reads, “Souvenir of the Viscountess Byng of Vimy Challenge Cup presented by Viscountess Byung of Vimy to the National Hockey League 1935 to encourage clean sportsmanship won by Herbert William O’Connor New York Rangers Hockey Club Season 1947-1948.”
