This is Edna Slocum, a perfect interpretation of the wartime woman in America who took over for the men who went away to war. They would change America forever as women got used to working and took a giant leap forward in equality. This led to the women’s movement and some freedom from male oppression.
Original paper caption. EX-MT. 8x10”. This advertises a Mississippi welding match, and perfectly describes her pose as a “modern industrial Joan of Arc".
