While he often played a confused, context-challenged naif to Abbott's arch, often scheming straight man, Lou Costello's life away from the stage and screen was much more complex. Thirty-eight original photos taken over the course of three decades allows us a glimpse of the genius few of us truly knew. Of note are the multiple images of him with Lou Jr. shortly before his death at age one (he had drowned in the pool on the family's estate) and at his funeral, alongside his partner Bud, and ducking behind his lawyer after being charged with drunk driving. One of the final shots is that of his family attending his funeral. The photos range in size from 6.5x8.5" to 8x11", with most being 8x10".
