9x7” D.W.A. publicity photo for July 4, 1912 World Heavyweight boxing match between fighting legend Jack Johnson and boxer “Fireman” Jim Flynn in Las Vegas, in what may have been the first big fight in the, then young, city. Cut-and-paste-style montage has photo-bust of famed boxing promoter Jack Curley situated in between the two heavyweight contenders, each who stand (without facing each other), arms reached out toward the others, in a glove to glove rivalry. Interestingly, it wasn’t Flynn who was to fight Johnson originally; it was only after the great Luther McCarty died just before the fight that Flynn was asked to step in and challenge Johnson. Some light fingerprints exist around edges, as a lone pencil mark extends lightly from Curley’s shoulder. On verso are colored production notes.
