ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
Seven years before he'd taken the field as a Brooklyn Dodger on April 15, 1947, he was a nationally known football player at UCLA, electrifying fans at the Coliseum with his spectacular broken-field running, a star halfback on the school's first undefeated team. Two years later, in the final game of '39, he found himself on the biggest stage of his career. In a match-up of undefeated teams, in front of a record 103,352 fans, Jackie's Bruins fell just short of the Trojans and their bid for the Rose Bowl game. Original press clipping on the reverse, stamp dated 12/11/39. EX+-EX-MT. 7x10".
