Lot 35: Joe Jackson at the Black Sox Trial with Harry Replogle (2)
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
Amazing image in terms of rarity and subject matter. This shows State’s Attorney Harry Replogle with Shoeless Joe Jackson at the Black Sox Trial of 1921. Their faces tell it all. Replogle is awash with glee in a combination of getting this key case and also being in the presence of (abdicated) baseball royalty. Jackson’s face shows the effect of being out of his element in this big city showdown and at the same time watching the unfolding of his baseball career going up in flames. The Black Sox would be found not guilty but would still not be allowed back into the game. Original paper caption. International Film Service stamp on verso. Tiny tear o/w EX-MT. 8.25 x 10.25". This lot also includes an interesting 9 x 6" print picturing Harry's brother, J. Leonard Replogle. The only first generation vintage print of this image we have ever seen.
