Lot 1153: 1948 Jim Prendergast Game Worn Boston Braves Satin Jersey

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $2,000.00
Winning Bid: $5,610.73
Price Realized: $6,704.82
Auction Date:8/28/2006 9:00 PM EST

Offered is one of the few remaining, and certainly one of the finest, complete satin baseball uniforms available on the market today. Worn during the very short, ten game, career of left-hander Jim Prendergast while he was a member of the Braves pitching staff in 1948 alongside HOF'er Warren Spahn, it is sewn with "Braves" and the tomahawk logo on front, while on back is his number "38" in brilliant red. Inside the collar is "Horace Partridge" and [size] "46" tagging which rests directly above, "Prendergast" chain-stitched in red to a felt nameplate. The matching pants, too, have Horace Partridge [size] 40" tagging in addition to "MM708" stamping in faded black ink. This remarkable relic, novel in even its own day, made the majority of its appearances during night games most likely due to breathability issues with the fabric. An issue that also explains the noticeable sweat staining found throughout both pieces which act as testament to their amazing, though, short lived MLB appearances. An incredibly attractive item, completely absent of the heavy fraying and tears that are associated with uniforms of this type, that is sure to make a welcomed addition to any high-end game used collection.
