Lot 1897: Late 1950's Gordie Howe Game Used Stick

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $800.00
Winning Bid: $2,040.28
Price Realized: $2,438.14
Auction Date:8/28/2006 9:00 PM EST

Though other superstars could be deemed somewhat better scorers, tougher fighters or faster skaters, no player has ever approached Gordie Howe's sustained level of excellence. A top five scorer for an astonishing twenty consecutive seasons he will forever be remembered as the one and only "Mr. Hockey". Offered is a late Fifties straight-bladed Northland Pro stick, handled by the 21-time All-Star that is factory stamped "Howe" and "Olympic Sporting Goods Co.-Detroit, Michigan", in addition to being written with his number "9" in marker. Howe's distinctive knob tape job is there and the black bulldog blade tape has been replaced, but perfectly so. Extraordinary use can be found throughout in the form of red, white, and black paint and stick marks on the shaft and noticeable wear to the tape on top.
