Lot 1040: 1964 Nellie Fox Signed Player's Contract
Nearing the end of his career as a player, Nellie Fox signed on with the Houston Colt 45’s in 1964. This “Uniform Player’s Contract” for the “National League of Professional Baseball Clubs” pays Fox $40, 000 for the year. It was his second to last year in the Majors, and it was in the next year of 1965 that the 45’s could finally become the Astros with the completion of the Astrodome, where Fox drove in the winning run (against the New York Yankees) in the first game ever played in the indoor venue. The Golden Glove winner signed this contract "Jacob Nelson Fox" in 9/10 ink. Also signed by Paul Richards and stamped "Warren Giles". Contract is NRMT but for mailing folds. Obtained directly from the Fox family.
