Lot 527: Jake Pitler Single Signed Baseball

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $500.00
Winning Bid: $2,259.08
Price Realized: $2,699.60
Auction Date:4/28/2006 9:00 PM EST

Pitler was the Pirates' second baseman in 1917, then played and managed in the minors for many years. He coached the Dodgers under four managers. He was a coach for the World Champion 1955 Dodgers. When the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles he became a scout rather than move to L.A. Calling this piece rare would be a vast understatement. He died in 1968 and this is the first single that we have handled. Sweet spot signature in blue ink is 8/10 and jumps right out at you. Spalding Official National League (Giles) baseball is evenly toned by shellac (EX).
