Lot 590: Rare Night Game Prototype NL Baseball

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $1,120.18
Price Realized: $1,338.61
Auction Date:4/28/2006 9:00 PM EST

One of the few "Night Game" baseballs we have ever handled. This innovative yellow Spalding National League baseball was introduced by baseball super executive Larry MacPhail who is also credited with inventing the Night Game. These balls were brought in (along with satin uniforms) to show up better at night (or so they thought). This concept quickly went the way of the Edsel and Chicago White Sox shorts. This prototype baseball has "National League" stamped on, and is in VGEX condition.
