Lot 1062: 1968 Bruce Springsteen Earth Poster and Handbill (2)

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $431.88
Price Realized: $516.10
Auction Date:4/28/2006 9:00 PM EST

We offer two wonderful items, which are among the earliest known from Bruce Springsteen, and date to his involvement with the 3-man band, Earth. Although no tapes of this band exist, it is known they were most active in the late summer and fall of 1968. A band playlist has been discovered, and it isn't surprising to learn the band specialized in songs of Cream (Crossroads, Spoonful, others) and Jimi Hendrix (Purple Haze, Foxy Lady), with a sprinkling of Steppenwolf, the Doors, and other popular bands of the day. The first item is an 11" x 17" poster, printed in black on heavy brown stock, announcing a concert at the "Teendezvous". A single performance by Earth, on August 10, 1968, has been documented at this club, located in New Shrewsury, NJ. The second item is a handbill, "Cats & Chicks / 2--nite / It's / Earth", 8 1/2" x 11", printed black on white paper. The poster is in superb condition, with only corner creasing, and rates EX. The handbill has pinholes at the upper corners, but otherwise is EX. A pair of rare and definitely essential items!
