Grover Cleveland Alexander had recently joined the Cardinals, and this 1927 photo catches him on the field and about to throw - directly at the camera. "Old Pete" won 55 games for the Cards, and was well on his way to a career total of 373 victories over 20 seasons, and a matchless lifetime 2.56 ERA.
