Dating from 1907 and 1908, these two documents certify the Commission of a U.S. Navy Officer, and are both boldly signed by Theodore Roosevelt, then in his second term as President. The signature of Secretary of the Navy Victor H. Metcalf also appears on both documents. Blue Navy Department seals are affixed to each. The 1907 document measures 16 1/2" x 19 1/2" and shows evidence of water staining, but is otherwise intact with sharp text and signatures. The 1908 document measures 15 1/2" x 19" and features a fabulous lithograph of Neptune and Venus with sailing ships in the background, with only a bit of minor creasing at the bottom edge, very strong graphics, text, and signatures, The overall condition is EX.
