Lot 415: Charlie Grimm Game Used Glove with Photo Documentation

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $500.00
Winning Bid: $1,275.19
Price Realized: $1,523.85
Auction Date:4/28/2006 9:00 PM EST

Using this undersized glove and his extraordinary range, Charlie Grimm became the premier first baseman of his era, as proven by his nine fielding titles. This finely worn, Hall of Fame worthy, specimen has been pounded clean of all its identifying markings and stampings leaving its make unknown. Photos provided, though, clearly show Grimm sporting the exact same style glove offered here, right down to the all leather piping and buckled wrist strap, during his playing days with the Cubs in the 1930's. He has signed and inscribed the back of the mitt, "Best Wishes, Charlie Grimm", in black sharpie, that is dark and entirely legible. A remarkable relic, loaded with high caliber use and character.
