The earliest batting helmet that we have ever seen. Black painted fiberglass shell with yellow "P" painted on the front. Only remnants of the padding remain inside. "Sandlock" written on a piece athletic tape stuck inside. Mike Sandlock only played for the Pirates one year, 1953. It marked his return to the majors after seven years away.
