Lot 434: 1907 Hughie Jennings "EE-YAH" Pocket Watch

Hughie Jennings was a player/manager in some seasons and just a manager in others for Detroit from 1907-20 and came back to manage the NY Giants in 1924 and 1925, winning four pennants. In 1945, he was admitted to the Hall of Fame. A 14k gold Gruen Veri-thin pocket watch was presented to Jennings by his fans in 1908 in honor of his managing the Tigers to a pennant. On the back, his initials (HAJ). When you open the back, you find incredibly well preserved insides. Inside cover reads "Gruen Nat'l W C Co. 14 K." Opposite, on the back of the watch itself it has engraved, "Presented to Hughie Jennings Oct. 11th, 1907 By Detroit Council K of C. Friends We’ e’ e’ ah.” The meaning comes from his nickname “Ee-Yah”. EX-MT. Comes with LOA.
