In 1914, John Evers' Boston Braves swept Eddie Plank's Philadelphia Athletics. In Game 2, Plank started and tossed a beauty but gave up a run in the 9th sending his team to a 1-0 defeat. Bill James tossed a two hit shutout at the Athletics in besting Plank. Evers was the league MVP that year and continued his hot hand in the series, batting .438.
