Lot 1103: 19th Century Glass Eyes Salesman's Sample Display Case
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Eerie set of 13 (unlucky?) glass eyes dates from the late 19th Century and comes in its original black "salesman's sample" display case. Each of these eyes are hand blown and hand painted and they come in 13 different subtle shades, of varying sizes and are complete with painted on veins. Many Civil War veterans who were injured in battle would have likely purchased glass eyes from a salesman showing his wares from a case like this. Handsome black case is vintage with its original brown velvet lining and measures 12.5 x 6" when closed. EX+, except for some minor chipping of the paint. The eyes average NRMT.
