Lot 900: Two 1970's Hand Painted Game Used Hockey Masks
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
The first mask was a crude leather one worn by Clint Benedict in the 1920's to protect a broken nose. After it healed he never used it again. Jacques Plante was the first to wear a mask full-time after being struck in the face with a puck during a game in 1959. After facing some initial derision, everyone saw the light and followed Plante's lead. We're not sure who these two belonged to, but they are vintage to the 1970's and great looking. All intact with straps. One is a Cooper with their markings. Other one also appears to be a Cooper with no markings visible. Hand painted red "1" is on the back of one.
