Lot 375: Victory Gum Original Art Mademoiselle X

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $392.62
Price Realized: $469.18
Auction Date:11/30/2005 9:00 PM EST

X marks the spot where this card is concerned. In this case, “Mademoiselle X” and her French war story were put on hold following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Her story was scheduled to become one of the V (for Victory) cards in the series scheduled for production by the Philadelphia-based Gum, Inc. The people behind the war effort were all drawn up. Mademoiselle X was drawn in heavy black ink under the art direction of Charles Steinbacher. After these ready-to-go pieces of art were put on hold, they ended up in Steinbacher’s safe--safe and sound until 1991. And now, this one-of-a-kind piece of original art is being offered to you. It measures 5 1/2” x 8” and has some minor yellowing on the top of the tracing sheet. The tracing paper was where the coloring was added. It was then attached to the board. The hand-wriiten pencil marking “32” is on the lower right corner. Never produced as a V-Card, now you have the opportunity to be victorious and claim this rare piece of artwork .
