ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00

Price Realized: $469.18
Auction Date:11/30/2005 9:00 PM EST

Ken Hubbs is a little known name outside of collectors, Cubs fans and true baseball fans in-the-know. If you are one of the above then this information is superfluous but if not then this should be an eye-opener: Ken “Hubbs of the Cubs” was the 1962 NL Rookie of the Year, setting a MLB record of 78 consecutive games w/o an error. While setting that record, the 2b-man handled 418 chances, also a record errorless streak. He was the first rookie to win a Gold Glove and also set a NL record w/661 at-bats. Hubbs died in February of 1964, piloting a private plane which crashed near Provo, Utah. The example of the man, tragically short duration of his career and rarity of his autograph make all his memorabilia truly prized possessions. This lot is a handwritten letter and envelope to his family signed by Hubbs. This is great baseball content from early in his career while he was playing for Morristown. Signed “Your Son, Ken.” It includes the original mailing envelope. NRMT condition with typical mailing folds. From the Hubbs family archives.
