Lot 484: 1967 Topps Wacky Packages Uncut Proof Panel
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
Wacky Packages are stickers that were released by the Topps Chewing Gum Company (and their Canadian partner OPC) from 1967 until 2004. The die-cut series was the first release of Wacky Packages. The jokes and roughs were done primarily by Art Spiegelman, the paintings (primarily) by Norm Saunders. Packs contained five stickers and a piece of gum but this series had no checklists. They were punch-outs with glued backs to be licked and stuck. They didn’t work very well and a switch was made to peel and stick stickers for the 1973 series and beyond. Rare uncut panel of 14 different cards is printed on standard card stock and includes full-color product images. This blank-backed sheet is void however, of the die-cutting process. The panel displays some black paper-tape residue on the back from where it had once been affixed, with moderate creasing to Maddie Boy, light creasing to Camals, Pure Hex & Alcohol Seltzer and just a hint of creasing (visible only upon intense scrutiny and noted for the sake of accuracy) to Band-Ache and Muffs.
