Lot 904: 1917 Babe Ruth Pitching Photo

How’s this for making a strong pitch for yourself? In 1917, Babe Ruth pitched a league-leading 35 complete games for Boston, ending the season with a remarkable 24-13 won-loss record. His earned run average was an equally impressive 2.01. All of which makes this ultra-rare 1917 Babe Ruth pitching photo a real winner. It measures 6-1/2 x 9” although the upper left corner appears to have been cut and there’s a slight tear at the bottom near the right. A slight folding crease is on the left and there’s a slight impression from someone who wrote on paper, perhaps over, but not on this 1917 photo. This photo was used by a newspaper because on the rear are blue pencil editor’s notes. Without a doubt, the historic pitching career of Babe Ruth will live on with this terrific ready-for-framing memory.
