Lot 1000: Ebbets Field Brick And Print

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $200.00
Winning Bid: $297.44
Price Realized: $355.44
Auction Date:11/30/2005 9:00 PM EST

Charles Ebbets started as an office boy. By 1912 he had worked his way up to club president and then sole owner. He built a 25,000 seat ballpark on swamp land in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The stadium was razed in 1960 and replaced by an apartment house. This print (24 x 28”) is from an original painting by Bill Levers and is entitled “A Field In Flatbush.” Print shows Ebbets Field from a slightly elevated position. In the street are a couple of cars and a few people walking around the area. Actual piece of Ebbets Field brick taken from the rotunda area during demolition is attached to the front glass of the frame (32 x 30-1/2”). “An Authentic Piece of Baseball History” surrounds the brick. Artist’s signature in pencil on lower right. To the left, “A Field in Flatbush” “244/1957”. All paperwork included. Comes with LOA.
