Episode 19 first aired January 19th, 1967. Entitled “Arena” it featured a hulking reptilian humanoid of the Gorn species. They say the Gorn has always been the “coolest” of the Star Trek aliens. One memorable reason was the deep growling, hissing voice of the Gorn. In this memorable episode, Captain Kirk and the lizard-like Gorn creature are transported to an uninhabited asteroid. They’re going to fight to the death! The seven foot tall Gorn is much stronger than any human and has a very aggressive nature. The Kirk advantage: speed and agility which he puts to good use by keeping out of the Gorns’s way long enough to mix up some minerals into gunpowder. He wounds--but refuses to kill the Gorn..and Kirk, and the Gorn and their ships are eventually set free.
