Lot 1628: 1947 Jose Ferrer Tony Award Table
ITEM DESCRIPTION

An amazing collectible from the least appreciated but equally important member of the major entertainment awards. This is a 63-pound, 24 x 24” metal relief tile that is purported to have once been a part of a Broadway theater (the Shubert?). It commemorates the Tony award presented to José Ferrer for his role as Cyrano Debergerac in the play of the same name (1947). Bronze with a brass finish, it appears this was either in the ground or on the side of the building. It is quite old, at least from within 10 years of its presentation. It has been turned into a table of great functionality to add to its aesthetic beauty and historical importance (it has not been altered in any way). Interestingly, this is for the FIRST year of the awards. EX+. A great future piece, as one day the Tony’s should receive similar recognition to the Oscars and Emmys.
