Andre “Hawk” Dawson was one of the most feared hitters from 1976-1996, all but two spent in the NL. In 1987, the stoic Dawson was National League’s Most Valuable Player. He clubbed 49 homers and drove in 137 runs for the last-place Chicago Cubs, becoming the first player on a cellar-dweller to earn the award.
