Lot 616: 1969-72 Billy Williams H&B Game Bat (34.25”)

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $632.31
Price Realized: $755.61
Auction Date:11/30/2005 9:00 PM EST

The soft-spoken Billy “Sweet” Williams excelled for 18 seasons, almost entirely spent with the Cubbies. He had one of those picture-perfect swings that only left-handed hitters seem to ever possess. The six-time all-star smashed 426 dingers and produced 2,711 hits. In the minors at San Antonio in the Texas League Williams was tutored by Hall of Fame hitting legend and Cubs coach Rogers Hornsby. That might have helped. The bat is a Hillerich and Bradsby model S2 (34.25”) with “26” in marker on the knob. Also “32” in pencil on the knob for the weight in ounces. “26” and “S2” in marker on the barrel end also. “S2” in marker next to the label on the barrel. Nicely signed on the barrel. Light, if any use.
