ITEM DESCRIPTION

You can count the number of Speaker bats that exist today on one hand. You can count the number of side-written and vault marked Speaker bats on one finger. This is the one. 35 inches in length and 37 ounces in weight. Uncracked but has a small chip on the knob which may be why Speaker sent it back to Hillerich and Bradsby for replacements. It was common practice for players to send bats back to H&B and request that exact duplicates be made for them. Thus, the mailing label still visible on the barrel “From: American League Baseball Club of Philadelphia. To: Hillerich & Bradsby Co., Louisville KY.” Some of the words on the label are partially obscured from wear but this is how it once read. Furthermore, when a player’s bat was received at the H&B factory it was marked with grease pencil as this one is “Tris Speaker 7-2-28.” After a duplicate(s) of the bat was made, H&B stamped the knob and barrel ends with “S39” as a method to keep track of the model and file it in their vault of player bats for future reference. Due to these markings by H&B, this bat can be traced right back to Tris Speaker. It is guaranteed that this bat was once used by him and he is the one who sent it back to the factory. Fantastic wood, great, deep burnings, beautiful use. The perfect bat from The Grey Eagle.
