In these vintage letters, two of the game’s all-time greats - Rogers Hornsby and Eddie Collins -- each responded to a request for advise on how to pivot on a double play. Hornsby’s letter on Chicago Cubs letterhead dated May 1, 1932 lists him as Manager on upper left corner under owner William L. Veeck and 4 other club execs, reads “Chicago National League Ball Club - “The Cubs” across top. Hornsby writes: “(G)et to the bag as fast as possible and get the ball away fast, so that the runner does not interfer [sic] with your throw.” Signature in black ink grades 9/10. Collins’ letter on “American Base Ball Club of Philadelphia” letterhead has Connie Mack’s name imprinted on upper left (the former A’s star second baseman was Mack’s front-office assistant then) and similarly advises “to get to the bag as soon as possible…and the rest will take care of itself.” Signature in black ink grades 7/10. Both letters are 8.5 x 11” and VG w/a pleasant darkening, minor wrinkling, 3 fold marks and 3 binder holes.
