Lot 881: 1940s Chicago American Gears Warmup #32 NBL
ITEM DESCRIPTION
The Chicago American Gears were larger than life, lasting only from 1944-47 in the National Basketball League. They signed George Mikan out of DePaul, and he led them to a championship in the 1946-7 as a rookie. The franchise folded in 1947 after a failed expansion bid by team owner Maurice White. This warm-up jacket is from the dynamic 1940’s franchise and has the number ‘32’ embroidered on the left sleeve and ‘Chicago’ sewn on in smart white script on the reverse. The tag on the collar is Burean Holloway and the jacket is a size 42. It’s a well-cared for look into the early history of basketball in Chicago.
