ITEM DESCRIPTION

Jackie Robinson was the first African American player to make it to the Major Leagues. Aside from his God given talent, he had integrity that no one could mess with, and that’s all too evident in this powrful handwritten personal letter to Pulitzer Prize winning sports writer Jim Murray of the LA Times. The writing is near mint and the condition of the page is excellent with great content. In the letter, Robinson gives Murray a piece of his mind regarding a his opinions on “false statements” Murray wrote about Davey Williams, Campy, Stengel and Robinson himself. Robinson also tells Murray that “good reporters don’t rely on rumors, they check facts”, and that’s only a fraction of the nuggets of terse advice Robinson gives Murray! The letter comes with the original 1969 mailing envelope with Jackie’s full signature in the return address portion. The letter is also signed in full at the end, “Jackie Robinson”. This is truly a unique and personal piece.
