Lot 1521: Two 1956 Elvis Presley T-Shirts

These 2 vintage Elvis Presley T-shirts from way back in ‘56 may just be cooler than any skull-and-bones-covered rock tee, since they blazed the rock fashion trail. The shirt design -- licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises -- of a rather quaint image of Elvis singing and wailing on his guitar set against a giant 45 and 4 early smashes (“Don’t Be Cruel”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Hound Dog” and “I Want You, I Need You”) no doubt softened the qualms people had about his hip-shakin’ “race” music. In a roundabout irony, quaint has now become cool on vintage clothing-store racks. The white tee with black neck piping has Elvis in semi-color and the disk in green, the yellow tee with blue neck and sleeve piping has the images in black. Only the first has the Presley copyright, so the latter may have been a knockoff. Both shirts are EX with only the mildest of fading, pilling and soiling.
